The story of Sleevy Clothing all started at Boombap Festival. This is where the name Sleevy was born. Our Founder Nathan, and a group of friends had attended a five word freestyle on the first night, hosted by Chester P. In this five word freestyle, Chester P, asked the crowd for something to clean a chalkboard with. After a few moments where no one answered, Nathan shouted “you can use my sleeve”. At this point Chester P announced to the crowd “Big it up for Sleevy Wonder” and at this moment the name Sleevy was created, as the night progressed the crowd would chant “Sleevy Sleevy Sleevy” everytime chester needed to clear the board for the next five word freestyle competition. By the time the evening had started to wind down and everyone returned to the campsite, the crowd all continued to chant “Sleevy Sleevy” again, this continued right across the weekend with even other artists and groups giving shout outs to Sleevy wonder, and by the time the weekend had ended, the name had been firmly cemented as a nickname.
As the weeks ran on following Boombap festival, Nathan continued to get further messages and comments and even mentions across social media platforms as an unofficial artists or act of the festival and a highlight of the weekend, this continued to the point media outlets that were covering the event even wrote about Sleevy within there reviews of the festival.
At this point, Nathan noticed Sleevy had the potential to be more than a nickname. Due to all of this attention and with such a good background story Nathan decided to create Sleevy Clothing, a Hip-hop and Graffiti Inspired streetwear brand.
At this point He teamed up with a collection of friends from graffiti writers, to musicians to web designers to create a brand in the image of this character\persona that had been created by the inspiration and nickname of Chester P and Boombap Festival.
Following on from this we have had alot of trials, from the team fragmenting, new friends joining and unfortunately saying goodbye to old friends as well. However through it all we have retained the same ideals and influences and passions that have driven Sleevy from day one.
We are now moving forward growing our team and our collections and are looking forward to the future. Where we hope to expand our brand across the retail sector and take streetwear design by storm.
